Movember

Movember was a movement created in 2004 by a group of Australian friends. Initially, the group was just discussing 70's fashion movements that'd never returned. Mustaches came up in their conversation, and later they began discussing men's health. They began to connect the two into what they began to call "Movember". They began growing their mustaches in the month of November to promote men's health such as: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and other mental health issues. They thought that they needed to spread the word that although prostate cancer isn't as well known as breast cancer, it kills as many men as breast cancer does women. Since then, they have been spreading their movement across the world and donating the money they raise to hundreds of institutions that study cancer.

 I thought that Neil did a very good job of relating with us that he was just an average high school student athlete when he was our age. He described that having even the most distant, and mellow connections, you can still use them to your advantage. He also went on to tell us how putting your name out there, is probably the most important thing in order to get a certain job, because an opportunity isn't going to go out of it's way to hit you square in the face. Also, he told us that employers admire someone who is professional, especially on social networking sights. They also admire someone who will step up and take initiative. He told us the story when there was a blizzard out, and the woman on the phone told him he could just do the interview on the phone, but he knew that's not the professional way to do it. So once he showed up at the office for the interview, they gave it to him right there.

Stadium Staffing

In the stadium staffing simulation, we learned that if you don't have a certain amount of ushers, then people will move down to better seats. And sometimes if you don't have enough ushers at a concert, the fans will start to rush the stage and get hurt. This ultimately creates a problem because they can sue the owners of the stadium for heavy amounts of money. It's also important to have a large amount of ticket takers, because it creates a steady income of fans without any backed up lines.

Frank McKinney

Frank McKinney isn't the normal multi-million dollar businessman. At 21, he got his first interview at a real estate brokerage firm. He'd stepped out of his comfort zone of appearance to please the company, but the man interviewing him said that his hair still wasn't short enough. Three years prior, 18 year old Frank arrived in Miami with little cash in his pocket. He started out working at a country club doing odd jobs such as grooming sand traps. He then worked his way up to giving tennis lessons. He eventually ended up providing professional tennis services for condo complexes. The money that he earned doing those things he used to purchase low priced houses, which he then refurbished and sold for profit. This might look like a dangerous gamble to some people, but he has found the ways people spend their money during economic inflation.

Naming Rights

The naming rights for the Cumberland County Civic Center are being disputed over. The Civic Center is 35 years old, and has recently been undergoing modifications which are scheduled to be done by early 2014. The Civic Center has hired a Comcast Corporation from Philadelphia to market the naming rights. What has been known as The Cumberland County Civic Center by many, could soon be named after a  big time company. For example, the sports arena in Manchester, New Hampshire was bought by Verizon Wireless in 2001 for $11.4 million. With this along with all of the renovation changes going into the Civic Center, don't be surprised if it goes through some big changes in the next few years.
